He completed his Bachelor’s studies with Réjean Poirier and his Master’s with Luc Beauséjour at the University of Montréal. He has also benefited from the advice of Benjamin Alard (Paris) and Jory Vinikour (Chicago). He was harpsichordist in residence at Clavecin en concert during the 2019-2020 season.
His talents as a chamber musician have led him to found numerous ensembles including Rendez-vous baroque français (Montréal), la Frontera (Mexico) and the Consort Laurentien (Basel), finalists at the York Early Music Festival Competition. He performs frequently as an organist with the Studio de musique ancienne de Montréal, Arion baroque orchestra, the Ensemble Clavecin en concert and the Métropolitain orchestra under the direction of Yannick Nézet-Séguin. He has performed at the Festival d’Orford with soprano Suzie Leblanc.
He will travel to the final round of the Jurow International Harpsichord Competition in Saint-Paul, Minnesota in August, 2021. Christophe Gauthier teaches organ and harpsichord at Cégep Marie-Victorin and ear training at Cégep de Saint-Laurent. He has directed the Ensemble vocal Vivace and the Chœur de l’OPMEM for three years. You can hear him each week on Radio VM.
